Better late than never……..NAHBS – part 3

Here is the final installment of my trip to the North American Handmade Bicycle Show from earlier this year.  This final set has some legendary manufactures represented, so i wanted to make sure I got around to posting a few photos.  Enjoy!

Rody Walter is Groovy Cycle Works.  Since the early 90’s, he has been hand crafting one off frames, stems and bars out of his shop in Wooster, OH.  Notice the beautiful one piece stem/bar combo below.  They are available with the purchase of a custom made frame.

Since the late 1970’s, Chris King has been manufacturing quality bicycle components that have become known as the industry standard for quality, craftsmanship and elegance.  Every King part is born in Portland, OR, where Chris King’s business operation encourages sustainable and responsible practices of manufacturing.  Check out some of King’s ideas here.

Above:  Yes, those are Sour Apple and Turquoise head-sets for sale.  I picked up one of each.  King had just done a few custom Turquoise parts for a Yeti anniversary project.  The Sour Apple parts were found hiding on a shelf in a back room.  Great score!!!

Moots Cycles was founded by Kent Eriksen in 1981, making them one of the early mountain bike specific manufacturers in America.  They have been one of the premier titanium brands in the mountain biking world for over 30 years.  If you need a custom ti ride, you can’t go wrong with Moots.  Check out them sweet welds!!

The guys at Renovo Bicycles don’t build wooden bikes because they are carpenters.  They build wooden bikes because they believe wood is a superior material for frame construction.  It absorbs vibrations rather than transferring them and it will outlast carbon and other common metal materials.  Renovo had some incredibly beautiful frames on display at their booth, highlighting their high level of craftsmanship.

If you’ve been to a professional cycling race lately, you may have noticed many of the riders sporting Rotor cranks and rings.  Rotor uses modern design capabilities to manufacture extremely lightweight and strong components.  Notice their 3D Crank below, featuring their “Trinity Drilling System.”
